Dr. Gregurick will discuss multiple data science initiatives being implemented at the world’s largest biomedical research agency. These initiatives range from improving NIH's data infrastructure to developing a workforce savvy in data science and artificial intelligence and more. Dr. Gregurick will highlight how this work is allowing NIH to create a more connected data ecosystem.

Kjiersten will describe how the Joint Genome Institute (JGI) is addressing the challenges it faces in storing and managing the rapidly growing volume of -omics data.

Arecibo Observatory’s main instrument fell victim to economics, entropy, and finally gravity. In an effort to bring the golden copy of data to a replica site, a multi-institutional virtual performance team formed. This performance team, using Globus and data movement best practices with resources at hand, is on the road to completion of the primary mission to preserve the data generated by Arecibo Observatory. This is a talk about the adventures Arecibo Observatory has been through, lessons other large facilities can take to heart, and the efforts and collaboration the virtual performance team has conducted to get the priceless Arecibo Observatory data to safety.
